Incorrigible

Original hand carved lettering on Oak wood, with acrylic.

The words are from the poem Snow by Louis MacNeice.
This is a curious piece of wood. The grain appears fairly straight, but the pale streaks (rays) which make up the 'figure' undulate wildly, as if it had a ripple grain. This seemed to suit MacNeice's words, so the board was cut and the letters designed to follow the undulations. A little more 'plurality' is added by the way the letters have been painted-in. To see this, view the piece obliquely from one side, and then the other.
